Week 18 Newsletter
We had a great start to 2020! Here are a few pictures from last week.
Sometimes mental math is hard with coins. We add touch bumps to them. Each dot stands for .05. It makes it a bit easier to count multiple coins.
We use a website called Plickers.com to show what we know. This is fast data for me as a teacher so that I know right away who needs extra support with specific lessons.
This is orthographic mapping. We split the word into syllables. Then we break up the sound for each syllable. Next, we show what we know and put the letters in. I model the correct way to spell and students circle and correct. By the end, they can spell the word, they can tell you what it means, and use it in writing. Last week the students learned community, characteristic, diversity....wow!
