Week 4 Newsletter

Last week we pushed through some pretty hot afternoons.  We took some time to go outside to play Friday afternoon.  We wanted to celebrate because every single kid brought their homework back!  Keep up the great work parents.  Keep that reading routine going!  I had some questions from the kids last week.  Here are a few answers...
-If you are reading books from home...that counts and reading time.  I send home between 3-5 picture books.  If your child is reading chapter books, I only send 1 books home.
-Some of the school library books that were chosen were very high in level.  This was because the children expressed that they wanted to read it with their parents.  That's an awesome thing!  Take some time to cuddle and read a chapter or two.  This time also counts on their reading log.
-Does the math have to come back? Nope.  I send home with math practice so that parents can walk through a problem or two with their child to see where their at AND to show them the way that you learned it.  The way I teach it is not the only way.
Below you'll find some pictures from this past week.

Week 3 Newsletter

It was another successful week in room 207.  We are starting to get the hang of this 2nd grade thing.
Just as a reminder:  reading bags should be back in class with your little ones this Tuesday (book bags, reading log (120 min or more), and classroom books.  Math practice should be done sometime throughout the week with an adult present. These do not need to come back to school. The red classroom mail folder can come back to school the very next day (Wednesdays).  Thank you so much for the team work!

Things you will want to look for in their mail this week:
- Camp Roger lunch order.  If you would like your child to get a lunch from school on the day of our field trip please fill out the order form so that the lunch friends can prepare for our special day.
- We are sending home a 2nd Walk-a-Thon pledge sheet this Tuesday.  100% of pledges goes toward friend trips, classroom books and needs, student technology...Thank you in advance for your support!

   Have a fabulous week!!!

Newsletter Sept. 9-13

This week is a big week!  You will be helping your child set a routine that HOPEFULLY sticks for the rest of their life.  Please set aside some time Tuesday night to pick a quiet place for your child to read.  Show them the timer and explain that they should read for 20 or more minutes each night.  I know this is not and easy task.  Trust me!  I have a 2nd grader too.  The last thing he wants to do is come home and read.  BUT, it is so important for their growth.  You will see them grow in everything if they are good readers.  Things that count as reading...
-Them reading out loud to you.
-Them reading in their heads (with you asking detailed questions after they are done).
-You reading to them. Pick out a chapter book together and read a few chapters to them each night.
-Them reading to a sibling.
-Them reading online (roadworks.com or getepic.com <-- epic costs money, but has a huge selection).
I cannot thank you enough for making this happen!  You will watch your child love reading more and more throughout the year.

Week 4 at Home MATH

Knowing that I have not done any formal teaching with multiplication, I have decided to add a video from Kahn Academy to hopefully give more...
